Because the phase for exon 4 in class I and exon 3 in class II is established by database lookup, there are a small number of diploid ambiguities in reported genotypes as detailed here in the Table of Haploid and Diploid Ambiguities.
The KIR region is polymorphic for both gene content and allelic variation. Using haplotype resolved resequncing, we detailed the structure of 37 KIR gene content haplotypes. Using these structures we developed a KIR haplotyping assay that can report unambiguous combinations of KIR haplotypes from an individual. KIR allelic typing for specific KIR loci is also available.
